Young Israel of West Rogers Park wishes its members and friends a Shabbat shalom Shalom and best wishes for a Shanah Tovah uMetukah - a healthy and happy New Year 5778.

The recitation of selichot begins on Motzaei Shabbat Nitzavim-Vayelech. Selichot services that night at Young Israel will start at chatzot (halachic midnight). We are honored that Efrayim Prero will help us prepare for selichot as he leads a pre-selichot kumzitz. Our selichot schedule:

  1. Refreshments Saturday night, September 16 at 11:30 PM
  2. Pre-selichot Kumzitz led by Efrayim Prero at 11:45 PM
  3. Selichot at 12:45 AM (halachic midnight)

Rosh Hashanah begins on Wednesday evening. Please consult the YIWRP Yamim Nora'im / High Holidays 5778 schedule for the times of candle-lighting, High Holiday services, and supervised play/babysitting.

If you would like to give permission to your child(ren) to go outside the Shul (weather permitting, to the fenced-in playground at Philip Rogers School) with our childcare leader, please send an email with the following text to

I, _________________, give permission to the childcare staff of Young Israel of West Rogers Park to take my child(ren) ___________________________ outside YIWRP or to the fenced-in playground at Philip Rogers School during the days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

Membership Renewal
This is the season to renew membership or to join Young Israel for the first time. Members are requested to return their membership form to the Shul together with payment. Payments may also be arranged through PayPal.

Kiddush, Simchas and Events

Shiurim (classes)

Unless otherwise specified, shiurim and classes take place in the Arthur & Sally Dordek Library at Young Israel. All are welcome to participate in any of the shiurim.

  • Rabbi Prero's shiur on Rabbi Joseph Soloveitchik's sefer, Al Hateshuva, On Repentence, will meet on Monday, September 18, at 8:15pm.

Maot Chitim of Greater Chicago Needs Your Help
Maot Chitim of Greater Chicago provides food to members of the Jewish community so that they may celebrate the Jewish holidays with dignity. We are getting ready for our 2017 Rosh Hashanah Delivery. We invite you to join us!

Delivery will take place on Sunday, September 17th at 7100 N McCormick (across from the Kohls parking lot). Please check the Maot Chitim website for updates as we get closer to the holiday.

There is an AA meeting at YIWRP every Tuesday from 7:30-8:30pm. it is a beginners meeting and open to those interested in recovering from alcholism.
